I know that we have members from all over the world, so I asked myself, what does pantyhose in your language mean? I will start it off: In Russian pantyhose means: kolgotki in kyrillic wich is the written language of Mother Russia, it looks like this: колготки

So, let me know which words you use in your language!

And thanks to all of you making this place a nice place full of tolerance & love to pantyhose :-)

Kisses,

Michelle

Encaser Wrote:In Germany they are called: Strumpfhose

Thats O.K.
But there are more translations:
- Feinstrumpfhose
- Damenfeinstrumpfhose
- Damenstrumpfhose

The Word "Fein" stands for gentle, tender.
"Damen" stands for women.

I prefer the word Damenfeinstrumpfhose - thats sounds erotic ... :-)

RE: What does Pantyhose in Your Language mean?
The german "Strumpfhose" is the most general word. It's used for any kind of pantyhose or tights no matter how thick they are.

When you are talking about the sheer ones which are called "pantyhose" in America and "sheer tights" in Britain you use the term "Feinstrumpfhose" in german. Thick tights or opaques that are not transparent are called "blickdichte Strumpfhosen" in german.

Did anyone mention Denmark? In Denmark pantyhose and tights are called "Strømpebuks" - similar to the norwegian word.

In Sweden pantyhose are called "Strumpbyxor" or "tights".

RE: What does Pantyhose in Your Language mean?
Here in America (I know it's been said already)

Pantyhose are sheer and light. Tights are heavier and opaque. Stockings are stockings (I HATE WHEN PANTYHOSE ARE CALLED STOCKINGS). Fishnets are Fishnets, but I've heard them called Fishnet Hose too.

And instead of Yank I prefer "Ugly American". ;0)
